This route traverses some of the country’s most secluded and breathtaking regions, following roads with endless curves, mountain passes, traditional villages, and unique natural landmarks. It’s an experience that takes the rider to the heart of the Pindus Mountains, where nature reigns supreme and time seems to stand still.
The adventure begins in historic Konitsa, at the foot of the Northern Pindus Mountains, with the first sight being its impressive stone bridge—one of the largest single-arch bridges in the Balkans. From there, the route climbs toward the famous Zagori villages, winding through forests, steep gorges, and mountain roads that offer nonstop driving pleasure.
Two nights in Tsepelovo allow for an in-depth exploration of the Zagori region, one of Greece’s most important mountain destinations. An entire day is dedicated to exploring the Vikos Gorge, a natural wonder of global significance. The route includes stops at the Voidomatis Bridge, Megalo and Mikro Papigo, the famous natural swimming pools of Rogovou, and viewpoints that reveal the grandeur of the gorge and the peaks of Tymfi.
Continuing south, the route passes through Ioannina and heads toward the mountains of Evrytania. The roads around Lake Kremasta offer unique views of fjords, steep slopes, and tranquil waters, while Karpenisi and the Tymfristos Pass provide some of the best motorcycle routes in Greece.
The route continues to Lake Plastira, a place of exceptional natural beauty with lush green landscapes and panoramic routes around its shores. In Morfovouni, the birthplace of Nikolaos Plastiras, visitors can explore the region’s unique cultural heritage and visit the Open-Air Museum of Contemporary Art.
The final days of the trip combine some of the country’s most iconic natural and cultural attractions. The majestic Meteora, with its monasteries perched atop gigantic rocks, creates a landscape unlike any other in the world. From there, the route heads toward the headwaters of the Aoos River, the secluded villages of the Pindus Mountains, and the traditional village of Dotsiko, before ending in Samarina, the highest Vlach village in Greece, built at an elevation that offers breathtaking views and a cool mountain climate even in the height of summer.
The return to Konitsa marks the end of one of the most authentic mountain tours a motorcyclist can take in Greece, filled with untamed natural beauty, traditional villages, historic bridges, and endless routes through the Pindus Mountains.
